Isn’t it Byronic? Don’tcha Think?

by sj

I don’t really have a whole lot to say today because I already answered 20 Questions for the Byronic Man.  Please go check them out, because I think I was pretty hilarious.

In lieu of an actual post, I’ll just put some of the songs I mentioned in my answer to question #5.

(seriously, what are you waiting for, go check it out!)

The 3 Songs I’ve Listened to More than Any Others in My Life (it’s actually six):

Frank Zappa – Jewish Princess

Frank Zappa – Baby Snakes

Dead Milkmen – Punk Rock Girl

Pixies – Debaser

(god, look at how young they all are!)

Rilo Kiley – Silver Lining

Magnetic Fields – Acoustic Guitar

  1. I have now read all your posts, just like I said I would. I now know more about you than a stalker would have before they invented the internet… (but in a good, not-creepy sort of a way)… I admit I didn’t listen to the songs. You know I am a musical dinosaur… (not in a Barney kind of a way, that song stealing purple bastard)… but rather in a hip, retro sort of a way that proves I am loyal as a fan… so there you go. You rock. And you have the coolest friends and commenters, which I believe says good things about your blog.

    • Thank you so much! Other than my actual friends that probably only read because I force them to, I think you might be the only person to have gone all the way back to the beginning!

By the way, I found some of your posts in the spam filter last night, but approved them. That’s why they were disappearing. :)

      • Oh good. I hate not knowing about things like that. But you are always a big help. It strikes me as funny that we both sort of open up about ourselves in similar ways. About our personal lives, I mean Those blog awards are good for making you list things about yourself. I sort of did that on my own, way back when, as you may remember.
I really like your book reviews. I feel as if I read a funnier version of the books, and learned why not to waste my time on them.

  2. Okay, that interview was awesome!! And the Monty Python answer makes perfect sense to me. Especially since your kids are running around with Star Wars quotes on their tongues.

    • My dad is the reason I love Monty Python and Star Wars…and the Frank Zappa up there. It was just him and I for a lot of my childhood and he was of the opinion that pretty much anything he watched, I could watch with him.

While I hesitate to let my boys watch Walking Dead with me, they do watch most of the other stuff we do. It helps that my husband and I are still really into cartoons.

  3. Great interview. And I haven’t heard the Dead Milkmen in almost 20 years. Thanks for making me remember a great year..

    • :D

I just checked, and I can’t believe that Beelzebubba is almost 25 years old and that I still love it as much as I do. My favourite album of theirs, though, is Soul Rotation. Sadly, I lost my copy of it in a move, it’s out of print and haven’t even had it in at least 15 years. I emailed their fansite about 8 or 9 years ago wondering if it would be re-released. I actually got a response from Dean (the drummer) saying that was his favourite of their albums too, and that he hoped someday they could release it again. I check ebay occasionally, but I’m not willing to pay $80+ for it. :(

      • If I only knew how to track down my old housemate Bob (who looked just like Malachai from Children of the Corn).. I could probably find you a copy. It really was that long ago, eh? Crap.

        • I KNOW! I was shocked to see that it is that old.

Someday I’ll find a copy of it in a thrift store or something and it will be like I’ve won the lotto. I’ve waited this long, I can wait a while longer.

  4. Love your answers, love your music! I’ve always been a huge fan of Dead Milkmen’s Bitchin’ Camaro myself…but Punk Rock Girl was my fave in high school.

I also appreciate your snapin’ expletives!

    • Bitchin’ Camaro is also awesome! It’s so funny, a girl that was one of my best friends in high school (and a few years after) found me recently on twitter and we started talking again. She is now a high school English teacher. I guess one of her students spent two pages of her SAT journal analyzing Punk Rock Girl, and she decided it was a sign that she had to look me up.

      • thats pretty awesome–this would’ve happened with my best friend in high school with your other music choice Debaser…the pixies were the soundtrack to our lives In high school(and a few years after). You have good musical taste lady!

        • Oh, I know I do. I’m a bit of a music snob (in case you hadn’t heard. ;) )

Pixies have been my ALL-TIME-FAVOURITE band for the last…holy crap, 23 years? Wow. I have so many live recordings other demo-type stuff, it’s not even funny. Must. Own. Everything!

          • I too am a music snob—and am in a seriously snobby doldrums right now with new music. I am anti-everything lately! Any recommendations for new music that fits with our tastes (based on what little bit I know of your music faves, I’ve decided we have the exact same taste in music).

            • Ugh, new music is tough. I find that lately I’ve been listening to old favourites again. Ummm…are you on Spotify? If so, I have some awesome playlists up that you might enjoy.
