Read-a-thon Countdown

by sj

There’s only one week left til the October Read-a-thon (next Saturday, Oct. 13).  I didn’t get as much reading done last time as I’d hoped, but I’m TOTALLY prepared this time!  I already have plans to go to bed early next Friday, be up BEFORE the 8 am start time with coffee pot set to go and so on.

I even know exactly what books I’m going to read, I’ve been saving them for this Read-a-thon because I think I stand a pretty good chance of getting through most (if not all) of them.

Take a look:

None of them are particularly long (in fact, the McGuire is only a novella), but I think that’ll be the key to powering through as many as I can.

Debris Dreams is one I’ve been WAY looking forward to for months, so I’ll probably save it for mid-morning.  Don’t want to start it too early and not be able to focus OR wait for too late and not make it through it.

The rest are either things I’ve been meaning to get around to, or just there in case I get bored with one of the others and need a break.

Read-a-thon was awesome last time because Mandy and I were there to cheer for each other the whole time.  Support from a friend that’s also participating is amazing.

Anyone else participating in the Read-a-thon this time?  If so, what are you planning on reading?  If not, you’ll be around watching for updates, right?  RIGHT?!

  1. I don’t think I could manage 24 hours, but maybe I’ll do a night of reading to the kids instead of TV. I hate TV anyway….

  2. I’m excited to watch your updates and cheer you on! I want to hear all about Fat Vampire.

  3. Do you feel like a hot mess for days afterwards? Curious

    • Not really, no. I generally have 19 hour days anyway (I hardly ever get more than 5 hours of sleep each night), so this isn’t too much of a stretch. I know I won’t be able to do the whole 24, but I’m going to try to do at least 20 this time.

  4. You can only do so much. You can’t take on all the world’s reading by yourself. Make them do some of it.

  5. I LOVE Nick + Norah and The Daughter of Smoke and Bone. Good Choices!

  6. One day I’ll be able to spend a whole 24 hours reading. One day.

  7. We’ll be eagerly anticipating your every update, sj! I hope you enjoy DoSaB, and I’m interested in hearing what you think of NaNIP (that sounds funny, nanip). All the best with it! Maybe I’ll do it next year…then again, probably not :P

  8. I really wish I still had weekends off – I have to miss the read-a-thon every time! I’ll have to compensate come winter with a few solo read-a-thons mid-week. But NEVER FEAR, I shall be stalking everyone else’s tantalising updates with great envy and wonderment! I’ve got Daughter of Smoke & Bone on my TBR pile, Nick and Norah is wishlisted, and Fat Vampire has been on and off my wishlist so many times that I could do with someone else reading it and telling me once and all whether it’s worth buying… GOOD LUCK DUDE!

    • Thank you! I mostly have it on here because it’s been on my reader for a while and I haven’t yet summoned up the wherewithal to tackle it. Hopefully it doesn’t suck (no pun intended), but if it does I am prepared to rant about it. FOR SCIENCE. Or something.

  9. Okay, so.

I’m thinking that I don’t really want to get into it as far as posting on my blog, official updates, etc.

I DO want to join you for as long as I can, though. So here’s my idea…will you be making a master update post on the day of the read-a-thon? I was thinking I could just cheer you on and use the comment section to let you know how I’m doing. Would that work, or would you prefer I keep my lazy tactics to myself? Hahaha! Let me know.

  10. So, at first I was only going to do 5 hours. Now I want to do, minimally, 10. I’m putting my book list together, some shorter titles, some longer- the longer ones are YA Contemps, which I tend to fly through anyways. I’d like to finish at least three books. Have fun! I think I’m going to get Nick and Norah’s from the library. Thanks for sharing!

    • I don’t always read a whole lot of YA, but it seems best for these types of challenges, doesn’t it? They’re just quick reads anyway. Thanks for stopping by, and good luck with 10 hours!
