Read-a-Thon Updates

UPDATE #4

Woo!  Midnight!  So, it’s been 16 hours since the Read-a-Thon started, and I FINALLY finished book #3 (or, 3½?  I don’t even know anymore).

I’ve read somewhere upwards of 600 pages, which isn’t great, but isn’t too bad either.  NEXT TIME I’m only reading effing SVH and BSC or something.  I wish I’d done that this time instead of getting all ambitious with new stuff.

ANYWAY, Debris Dreams was awesome.  I hope you’ll all read it when it comes out next month, and I’ll have a review up sometime soon.  Whenever my brain starts functioning properly again.

I…had more to say but I’ve already forgotten it.  I don’t even know what I’m going to read next.  [sips wine]  I guess it doesn’t really matter at this point.

UPDATE #3

So, I haven’t really had much time to read during the last five hours.  I was going at a good clip while the younglings were not napping, but then I had to get them up and make dinner, and it’s just been an unholy amount of noise since then.

I think I’ve only read 150 pages in the last five hours (only, like, 10 of which have been in the last 3, ugh) which is kind of lame.

[insert rant about oldest child exacerbating loudness situation instead of helping like he said he would here]

BUT, kids are all going to bed now, except oldest and youngest who will be in bed in half an hour.  Then I should be able to at least finish THIS book, even if I can’t finish the others on the list.

I’m hoping husband brings me home some wine.  That might help things.

UPDATE #2

Okay, a little over 8 hours in and I’m feeling pretty good.  I haven’t had any more caffeine, just ice water.  I finished Nick and Norah’s Infinite Playlist (which I didn’t love, but liked quite well) and am working my way through Debris Dreams (which I already DO kind of love).

Pages read:  ~370 something + however many pages that novella had (it’s ebook only and I have no idea)

Snacks eaten:  Half a strawberry bagel, greek yoghurt with cherries and a white chocolate ice cream bar.

I should probably cut back on the snacks.

All of the kids are napping or otherwise occupied for the next few hours, so I’m hoping I can at least get CLOSE to finishing Debris Dreams and started on something else.  We’ll see.

UPDATE #1

It’s just after noon, I’ve been reading for 4 hours now.  Finished A Wizard of Mars, started AND finished In Sea-Salt Tears and am now almost a quarter of the way through Nick and Norah’s Infinite Playlist.

I loved In Sea-Salt Tears.  Remember when I talked about One Salt Sea a few weeks ago?  This novella takes place many years before that, but expands on the relationships we learned about in that book.  It made me cry.  Well, not sob, but still, the tears were flowing.  The Luidaeg is my favourite character in the October Daye books, and it was nice seeing a minor piece of her past.  If you’ve read those books, I strongly recommend it.  ESPECIALLY since you can currently download it for free at the author’s website (here).

I had to take some time off to feed kids and whatnot, but I think I’m making some decent progress.  I stopped drinking coffee after my second TARDIS mug-full, and I’m feeling pretty good.

Hope everyone is doing well and meeting their goals!  See you again in a few hours!

HELLO, READERS!

Um, I woke up way before my 7:20 am alarm, so I’m seeing a nap coming up at some point today.  But you’re not here to read about my sleeping schedule, I know.

SO!  Read-a-Thon officially starts in just half an hour, and I’m totally ready to go.  Even if I am yawning around my coffee mug.  Who knew it was just barely starting to get light here this early?  Not me!

This is my “Oh, I’m so sleepy, why’m I up again this early?” face.

And, um…now of course I can’t remember all the things I was originally going to mention because I’m distracted by the fact that the latest update to Chrome has decided I’m spelling things wrong AS I’M TYPING, so there’s that little squiggly red line under partially finished words.

What was I talking about again?  RIGHT!  The books.  I’m starting my day by finishing Diane Duane’s A Wizard of Mars (which I am LOVING) and have just under 150 pages left.  Then I’ll move on to something from the list I posted last week, but mostly I’m just hoping to finish this book before I have to get the kids up.

Check back for updates every 3-4 hours.  I’ll keep updating this post with MORE INFORMATION THAN YOU’LL WANT TO KNOW about how I’m feeling.  Also, if you want to cheer me on on twitter, the link is over there on the right.

See you soon!

  1. Go! GO! GO! That’s all the cheering I can do for now. I’m away from my computer all day. Hope you get a lot read!

  2. Good luck! It’s 11PM here on 13th October, so I’m going to bed. It’ll be mostly over by the time I wake up in the morning. All the best!

  3. Sending you all the read-y thoughts from work! You can do it!

    • I hope your day goes by SO FAST! I need my Rosie back!

      • I’m back but have to go to bed in half an hour and then have work all day tomorrow and then have to do freelance stuff all day Monday and THIS NEVER ENDS NEVER. How’s Thursday? Maybe I can talk to you…um…Thursday?

        Sigh.

Sending you happy reading thoughts. Miss your face.

  4. gimme an “s”! s! gimme a “j”! j! What’s that spell? sj! This cheer really loses something when you go by just initials.

    Good luck!

  5. I’m operating on next to no sleep myself, and for me it’s a writing weekend. Cheering us both on…

      • Primarily writing. I’m working on a 6-part series for my blog that I very nearly decided this morning should maybe be published elsewhere instead. But editing would be helpful, too, since I’m going to a writers’ conference in a few days and am going to do an agent pitch slam for the first time, and I need to revise my query letter a tiny bit and then write my 90-second pitch. I’m kinda freaking out over here. Oh, and to top it all off, report cards are due. That’s straight-out writing, once I manage to get all the papers graded.

        Oy gevalt.

  6. I know the feeling! The start time over here for the read-a-thon was 5 am. I’m on my third cup of coffee now. :-) Happy reading!

  7. I am on hour three of reading (while also doing laundry, taking a shower, and eating lunch). I have read 104 pages and haven’t finished any books yet.

    Go, you! *\o/*

  8. I’m basically just seeing how much of The Dark Tower I can get through today. Alas, I have to go to bed at the normal time because tomorrow is my Monday, but I’m readathoning in spirit (as always).

  9. Three cheers for napping children!!!

  10. You are reading yourself to the bone… when will the madness end?

  11. Hi SJ. How are you doing? Is it coffee time yet? Keep on reading!

    Chris (Team Tootsie Rolls)

  12. Essjay, Essjay, she’s my…frand,
If she can’t…read it…no one can!

WOOOOOO! SAN DIMAS HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL RULES!

  13. I hope you’re not getting too sleepy. I do understand how you can start forgetting a book. The same thing is happening to me. ;-)
