Well, THAT’S not depressing at all. Oh, wait.

So, since the whole Goodreads review deletion fiasco a few weeks ago (see also Amy’s thoughts, Charleen’s thoughts, Susie’s thoughts and Ceridwen’s thoughts), I’ve been in a bit of a funk.  Not the good kind of funk, either (I could totally go for some George Clinton, though – hmmmm).  The kind of funk where I have a ton of other shit going on in my life right now and adding the loss of my favourite social media site was just the wrong kind of cherry on top of the worst sundae imaginable (COME ON, you know I have no life).

So, the other day I was reading through my goodreads feed (which is a fucking WASTELAND, I’ll tell you what) and I saw this:

ceridwen_status

SCIENCE!

So, even though I wasn’t one of the original 21, I made a stupid placeholder comment, mostly so I could be sure to get notifications when other people commented (everyone else does this, right?).  A few days later when she asked for help parsing the data I was ALL OVER THAT SHIT.  All over it.

And not in an entirely altruistic way, for realsies.  If I’m being completely honest (and we’re totally in vino veritas territory, here), I volunteered cos I’m nosy as fuck and I wanted access to that information as soon as fucking humanly possible.

Since yesterday, I’ve been poring over the spreadsheet Ceridwen provided, and it was pretty fucking depressing.  One of the users had ONE HUNDRED TWENTY NINE REVIEWS deleted.  Yes, you read that right – 129.  What.  The.  Fuck.

I would cry.  I would cry, and then I would turn into a screaming ragemonster.

Tonight the information was published (along with some charts made by yours truly [cos we all know that bitches love charts, amirite?]), and I encourage you all to go take a look at it.  Ceridwen was much less emotional in her reportage, which makes it all seem that much more scientific.  It’s worth your time.

Go read it:

By the Numbers: An Analysis of the Reviews Deleted in the Goodreads Policy Change

(but then come back here and tell me how much you love my charts, yeah?)

So You Want to Read PKD? Here’s Some Help.

The idea for this flow chart came from a comment Kate made the other day.

For the last MANY YEARS, people have asked me where to start if they want to get into PKD.  Because a little bit of work one time will save me ALL THE WORK later on, I decided to make this to keep from having to continually answer this question in the future.

If you’d like to share, that’s fine, but please link back/properly attribute.  I put a lot of work into this, many drafts and lots of time and consideration.  Thanks, and enjoy!

Thanks to Trev, Reverend61 and the other Kate for their suggestions, which helped me put this whole thing together.  And extra thanks to Susie for being all amazing and adding the dodisharkicorn watermark.  <3

UPDATE PRIOR TO POSTING!  I finished reading Counter-Clock World (which I mentioned I’d be starting on the post that made this all happen) shortly after scheduling this post and put up a short review on goodreads.  RIGHT AFTER IT WENT UP, Ashley Awesome commented and asked where would be a good place to start for the “Dick curious.”  (hee!)  It made me a little bouncy and happy that I’d made the decision to do this.

In addition to my fellow Dickheads (heh) mentioned above, thanks to all of you for your support.  I AM SAPPY, OKAY?
